The Fall of Jerusalem

Okay, so this was really not a fabulous activity on my part but it was easy and we got the story down pretty well. We played out the destruction of Jerusalem with blocks and Playmobil Roman soldiers. Very dramatic. Our house is there to the left of Emma in Bethlehem.

The Celts

This week we learned about the Celts. We read some Celtic Legends including Beowulf and made Celtic dragon brooches. Me thinks that all the kids will remember is that sometimes they battled naked and hung the disembodied heads of their enemies over their doors to honor them. We also dressed in Celtic cloaks with their brooches. I think they should have been naked. Would have made for a much better picture.

Green Belt

Here is Ethan at Taekwondo camp this summer. He worked pretty hard and loves his classes. This picture is of his test for his high orange belt. He is now a green belt. His classes start up again next week. Ethan's wearing a high yellow belt in this picture, hence the black stripe. Colors progress like this (there are 3 or 4 sub-levels within each color):
white
yellow
orange
green
blue
brown
red
black
It gets tougher as the belts get higher to advance to the next belt, so even though he zoomed up to green in one year doesn't mean he'll have his black by next. He's excited and motivated to keep working at it.

A Day at our House

Here we are just after lunch. Ethan and Emma are working on their Math. Jacob is not doing his workbook yet because he has to finish eating the lettuce from his sandwich which was surreptitiously dropped on the floor throughout lunchtime. Lily is eating Playdough.

Mount Olympus

We finished studying Ancient Greece a little while ago. This is the Mount Olympus we created in our play room complete with the houses of Aphrodite, Hera, Hermes, Apollo, Athena, and Zeus, of course up at the top. And before you accuse me of teaching revised history, we are well aware that Ethan is in a ROMAN chariot. They just wanted it for the picture.
