That's a good line of poetry, don't you think? My own peculiarities have been in the limelight of my mind lately and I can not help but think I am a little too different for normal society!
Here are some ways I am odd:
- I bake my own bread.
- I grind my own wheat to make my own bread.
- I don't grow my own wheat to grind and make my own bread which may be the only thing that separates me from the Little Red Hen...I also am pestering other people all day long to help me out.
- I sacrifice sleep to read. Even a bad book.
- I am a little weird about Harry Potter. The series, not the boy.
- I homeschool. Nuff said!
- I'm so not dope wit slang.
- I believe in liberty. Freedom to succeed and the freedom to fail.
- We have no network TV.
- I keep a budget of roughly $4 a month.
- I make my 5 year old fold laundry.
- I hate shopping for shoes.
- I am a Mormon and therefore believe in ancient scripture, living prophets, and modern revelation, even on a personal level.
- I love teaching 80 rambunctious, antsy, undisciplined kids to sing songs about Jesus Christ, eternal families, love, gratitude, and prayer every Sunday even though it is exhausting or annoying at times.
- I'm not so good socially, in general.
- The beauty of trees, mountains, oceans, fog, and dappled sunshine is like ambrosia to my soul. It cures me because it fills me with gratitude.
- I love a good intellectual spar, but never emotional ones.
- I was once pretty fluent in Hebrew and actually got paid for it for a short time.
- This ethnicity I am most often mistaken for: Japanese, then Mexican, then Hawaiian.
- I can't stand thin skins. I'd rather offend than tiptoe...within reason, of course.
- I'm not into Girl's Night Out.
- I really like Math.
- I used to create pretty pictures. Right now, I am creating souls. I can't seem to do both simultaneously.
- I really don't care how you pronounce my name.
- I kissed him first.
How are you odd?

this is a great little peek into your personality.
i think we all have a list of oddities and so that makes us more alike than different. whether or not that counts as "normal society", i guess that depends on your definition.
if you don't have a list of oddities, then you're not you.
to me, it's about balance.
Oh thank you, thank you. I'm a person surrounded by Target shoppers and I just am not one, on so many levels. It is nice to know their is another freak (I mean oddity) out there, though half way across the country! I'm less lonely today.
Ah, fresh air.....tastes delicious. Your * about fog/dappled light my very favorite....the * about liking math....wellll... not so sure what to do with that one!!
you know i think you are the knees of bees....

happy to have company therin
You are a strange duck, Laura. :) I do enjoy your oddities. I have no oddities though... :)
I make my kids fold laundry, too! It's beautiful. They fold for their younger buddy and put it all away. It makes my heart happy every time. I hate laundry.
One of my eyes ALWAYS droops in pictures. And that's just the TIP of the iceberg! :)
I'd like to know more about your $4 monthly budget...does that mean that is all you spend on food/household needs? If so, I'd like to see an entire blog entry devoted to it. :) As for being an oddity, I think you are more of a person people admire. I won't even attempt to perfect some of your fine attributes, but I do admire them.
And that is why I love you! And... need to be more like you!
p.s. I love that you are "creating souls." I had a major epiphany. THANK YOU! :) You're theeeee BEST!
I have always admired you and your strength. I don't think you are odd at all, you are refreshing and a bit overwhelming with your perfectness at times...(home schooling). I'm not very good socially, either. I love folding laundry and doing dishes. I'm up right now at 2:00 am blogging. I'm not into Girl's Night Out, either.... would always rather be with my best friend. I enjoy tap dancing and occasionally bust out in the middle of the kitchen. Right now I'm into zebra stripes and hot pink. Girl chatter drives me crazy... if we're going to talk, let's make it worth it.
