Honest Tamale

What better way to spend a little time cooped up in the house than to spend a day making homemade tamales. The kids are not so good at spreading the masa. They seem to miss the corn husks a lot and spread it on their sleeves, ponytails, baby sister, etc. The kids are not so good at filling the tamales either. Other things end up in there with the meat and cheese, like chocolate chips, Cheerios, boogers. The kids are not so good at rolling the tamales either; think tube o' toothpaste.

They didn't help me very long and we all enjoyed fresh booger-free tamales with El Pato sauce. To employ a Relief Society expletive: YUMMY! The El Pato sauce was key, recommended by my kindred cooker sister, Teresa.

I've been craving more ever since so I think I will host a giant tamale making party at my house, you are all invited. Bring your own boogers.

That sounds yummy! (The tamales, not the boogers.) Count me in for the party!

That does sound really yummy! I want the recipe! I've been wanting to learn how to make tamales forever, so if you get a chance, and wouldn't mind, would you email me the recipe?

I want to come!! I'm sure my kids would gladly supply the boogers. I love tamales!! My mexican stepmom makes the best and I've WATCHED her make them, but my sorry attempts don't even compare. Dang it.

ah, yes - the wonder of kitchen help. Carver is a big "help" around here. He likes to dump things in the bowl... hope you didn't want the FULL tsp salt in that pizza, etc...

The tamales sound delicious, though! Do your kids like them?
